Fairmile Lane - Cobham > Local Area

A picturesque Surrey village on the banks of the river Mole, proximity to London combined with easy access to delightful countryside makes Cobham the archetypal commuter town-in this case a rather upmarket one populated by wealthy stockbroker types sufficiently well-established to escape the rigors of city (and City) life.

Cobham is predominantly a family area with a property market largely comprised of good-sized 3-5 bed homes which range in price from £300,000 to £1,000,000. Most were built in the 30s and 50s although there are also more recent developments as well as a limited supply of Victorian and Edwardian semis and cottages. Prices are highest for the private residential developments-Fairmile Estate, Oxshott Way Estate, Eton Park Estate- which offer secluded executive-style accommodation with large gardens and unspoilt rural settings.

In addition to acres of protected Green Belt countryside Cobham is also home to the 158 acre Painshill Park, a magnificent eighteenth century landscaped garden complete with ornamental lake, Gothic temple, ruined abbey and Chinese bridge. Other notable attractions include Cobham Mill, a lovely red-brick structure on the banks of the Mole now returned to full working order, and The Royal Horticultural Gardens at Wisely.

Cobham has excellent schools, both public and private. The best known include The Reed School for Boys, Notre Dame School for Girls, The American and Dutch Community Schools, and the Yehudi Menuhin School. Shopping facilities include a Sainsbury's and a Waitrose as well as a good collection of more specialist shops, restaurants and pubs. The town also has more than its fair share of golf courses, tennis courts, sports clubs and leisure facilities. Sandown Park in nearby Esher has horse racing, squash courts, a go-kart track, golf course and dry-ski slope; Kingston and Guildford have excellent shopping, cinemas, theatres and restaurants.

Gatwick and Heathrow airports are accessed via the M25, London via the A3. There is also a quick train link to London (Waterloo), which takes approximately 35 minutes.
